AmericanAway was founded in Phoenix, Arizona by Kiran Vedantam and Sunil Godavarthi. After more than seven years owning and operating Sacred Heart Hospice, and years devoted to senior living, we saw how often retirement in America means less: less connection, less adventure, less life.

For American retirees
Does Medicare cover me in Asia?
Generally, no. Medicare does not cover care outside the United States, so we help you find international health insurance that fits your age and needs before you go.
Do I need a visa?
Most of our destinations offer long-stay or retirement visa options for people 50 and over. Requirements vary by country and change over time, so we guide you through the current rules and paperwork.
Will people speak English?
Yes. We only work with partners whose staff speak English, from care teams to drivers and concierge services.
Is it safe?
We visit and vet every partner in person, including licensing and background checks, and we look closely at safety, security and hygiene.
What if I need a doctor or hospital?
Our destinations have internationally accredited private hospitals in the major cities, and our team helps you find the right care quickly.
How much does it cost?
It depends on the country, your accommodation and the level of care you need. After your readiness assessment, we give you a clear, written quote.
Can I keep my home in America?
Absolutely. Many of our clients start with a trial stay or a few winter months and keep their US home base.
What happens after my trial stay?
You decide: extend your stay, make it long-term, or come back home. We help either way.
Can my family visit?
Of course. We can help arrange airport pickups and nearby accommodation for visiting family.

Independent living, assisted living and memory care facilities, plus insurance, visa, banking and medical professionals, travel agents, and ground transportation and concierge services.
What does vetting involve?
An introductory call, an in-person site visit, a review of licensing and accreditations, and background checks.
How are referrals and fees handled?
Referral arrangements and pricing are agreed in writing in advance, and we disclose them to our clients.
What standards do you expect?
